The Silver Forest Trail offers one of the more unusual and visually distinctive landscapes in the Sunrise area of Mount Rainier National Park. The trail passes through an old burned area where weathered tree trunks have developed a striking silvery appearance, creating a landscape that looks dramatically different from the lush evergreen forests found elsewhere around Mount Rainier. The contrast between the pale tree trunks, alpine meadows, blue skies, and distant mountain scenery makes this an excellent location for creative landscape and Instagram photography.
The National Park Service describes the trail as passing through an old burned area where the charred trees have been bleached by weather, creating the "silvery" appearance that gives the trail its name.
For photographers, this unusual environment provides opportunities to create images that stand apart from typical Mount Rainier photographs. The trail also connects with scenic areas overlooking Mount Rainier and Emmons Glacier.
